How is the trachea (larynx) closed off?

  1. it is closed off by a flap of cartilage when you swallow, then it moves back covering the esophagus when your done swallowing.


  2. epiglottis is the tissue that closes the trachea. ..for e.g when food is being swallowed it prevents it from going into trachea
