How is the traffic in edmonton in the morning?

If I am coming from South of the city along highway 2 and I want to

get to the University of Alberta...I'm planning on just going up to the Whitemud...Heading west to 114 and then up.

is the whitemud usually packed at this time of day...about 8 am??

Notwithstanding the Whitemud, the U is pretty packed around 8 AM too... there's a lot of construction projects around there, so there can be a real jam sometimes there. :(
