I'll be visiting melbourne 2nd week of August, I want to know if there is a need to bring warm clothes.

Also from Melbourne what is the fun and easy way to go to Sydney (except via air). Or what other places can I visit within Melbourne or nearby Melbourne? Thanks

  1. wet and cold

Sydney is a 10 hour trip from Melbourne longer if you go by bus

  2. there is a site you can go and it tells you all the places you can go in melbourne, wear warm things . all the best

  3. Its very unlikely to get as warm as 25 C during August. I'd say 12-20 C for maximum temps. It will almost certainly rain sometime during the week.

There are bus and train services that run between Melbourne and Sydney. I don't know the exact prices for the trains, but flying might be cheaper than the train. Both bus and train will take 10-12 hours.

  4. Wet foggy sunny cloudy cold ...im not kidding pack your winter woolies

  5. Melbourne can be rainy through the winter months. I'd be expecting a temperature of between 15 degrees celsius and 25 degrees celsius. Pack a jumper or two a jacket and definitely some long trousers.

Go straight up the Hume Highway to Sydney for the quickest route. Alternatively within Victoria you could go to the Great Ocean Road one of the most scenic drives in the world or up to the Dandenong Ranges or if you fancy the Snow head for the Australian Alps.

  6. 15C to 25C in Melbourne in August? I would be very surprised indeed if the maximum gets much over 15C and you can expect minimums of around 7C. So yes, bring warm clothes. Layers are best and you'll need a warm jacket or coat and something to keep the rain off.

Melbourne itself is a great city. Explore the laneways in the CBD, go to Queen Victoria Markets, visit the Melbourne Zoo, the Museum, the Art Gallery, Southbank, the Aquarium and the MCG. Within easy reach of Melbourne are the penguins on Phillip Island, Healesville Sanctuary, Yarra Valley wineries and the beautiful temperate rainforests in the Dandenongs.

The most interesting route to Sydney is via the coast road - either driving or by bus, though it's the long way around. Train is another option.
