  1. They blast the space debris and use artificial gravity on the inside.... because it's a sci-fi.  Hmmmm, I wonder if they had to do septic dumps from that "technological terror" of an RV.

  2. First, the science: "How is there gravity on the Death Star?"

There is gravity because there is mass. Any mass distorts the space-time, altering inercial paths into geodesical lines.

Now, the movie: "Why does it not attract asteroids and space debris?"

In the Star Wars galaxy, they use the repulsorlift technology, an unexpensive anti-gravity all-purpose device, which is able to hold entire cities in mid-air. Thus, it would be easy to repel any objects falling into the Death Star. Or perhaps shoot it, as it was a Battle Station with plenty of defense turrets. =D

  3. No natural gravity because of lack of mass.

It's average density is only about 1/100 that of a planet or moon of equal size.  The view of the interior clearly shows a LOT of empty space.

  4. They had gravity on the small ships too.  Some amazing unnamed gravity simulation technology.

  5. There are gluotrons in the floors and anti-gluotrons in the ceilings that maintain an even g throughout the rooms without creating a gravitational field outside.
