On Our Way

by C.S. Scotkin

We’re on our way to Martian soil,

to Martian soil we will soon go,

we will soon go to dance and sing

and sing of all poetic things.

Of all poetic things to write,

to write of love in ballad’s form,

in ballad’s form, we’ll write the tune,

we’ll write the tune, go past the moon.

Go past the moon, go past the stars,

go past the stars, to planet Mars

to planet Mars, the Golden Dome

the Golden Dome, the poet’s home.

The poet’s home where we shall stay,

where we shall stay and ever play

ever play and poetry write

poetry write, into the night.

  1. I loved it and thank you for teaching me with this fine example of this form of poetry.

    ma

  2. That is a great form...hehehe ;)

It's great.  I love how this form allows the poets voice really come through despite the repetition.  I also like your theme which lives in the hearts of many Y!Poets and the Poets of Mars.  Excellent job.  I'm going to have to write another.  You and Eva have just flown with this baby...It makes a mommy proud.

  3. I love it. One suggestion if I may - V1 "we soon will go" sounds smoother for me. But it is not my poem, so I'll shush now....

    tra-l tra-la tra-la tra-la!! I'm skipping with the rhythm.

    Dancing, dancing around La Lune

Around La Lune, we sing in tune

We sing in tune, departing soon

    Departing soon, prepare the moon!

Prepare the moon, for our delight

For our delight, both day and night

Both day and night, po-ets will write

Po-ets will write, with all their might

With all their might, their words regale

Their words regale and never fail

And never fail, their voices sail

Their voices sail on starry trail.

It's like Shari and Lambchops "Neverending song"

"This a song that doesn't end

and it goes on and on my friend

    Somebody started singing it

    Not knowing what it was

    And then continued singing it

    Forever just because....

    it is a song that...."

  4. This one sings perfectly! I am packed and ready to go!! I was thinking some wine to go with the poetry, what does everyone like?

  5. A lovely and lively bit of invention.  Regardless of what the astronomers tell us, Mars has never been closer to Earth than it is right now, or we any closer to heaven.  Thank you my talented friend.

  6. I have read a few of this style,,, none have had the ease of flow and balanced rhythm you obtained in this piece.

    VERY well constructed.

    A completely pleasurable read.

  7. I love this form and your poem.

Maybe I'll try to do one at 3 AM tomorrow morning. It seems to be the only time I can concentrate on writing.
