How is this area? 106 st & 3rd avenue?

Question

This gym location is the closest to my apartment off 77th & Lex. Im new to the city and have not been past 96th street. Is this area ok? I have heard from some poeple not to go above 95th street but I dont know if they know what they are talking about. I would be leaving the gym at about 10:00 PM and taking the train back down at 103rd & Lex station. Let me know if the area is ok at night ...Thanks!

The Bally's, right? :)  It's the ONLY gym that I know of in the area.

That time of night, the area does become rough although E. 106th Street for some reason is rather "quiet" for a major street.  But walking over to Lexington Avenue to 103rd Street, you definitely take your chances.  Just keep alert but do realize it is "El Barrio" and is rather rough.

During the day, not as bad.
