Anthropology is the study of humans.  In this case it would greatly affect human culture.  What was that culture like before the high prices of food and gas.  What were they dependent on and why.  How has their society changed or how will it change with the higher prices.  It has obviously started to affect the way cultures view stealing.  Stealing food for your starving family, or gas in order to make the money you need to feed your family, etc now becomes less taboo.

    These are all culturally tied and important to the study of cultural anthropology in the area.  Also, it affects physical anthropologists because of how the body reacts and changes to accomodate a lack of food or change in means of mobility.

    I hope this general explaination gives you the idea of why it is related to anthropology.  You could find more ways that is related as you study the issue.
