Ok so my daughter is in prek but in the school taht she goes to they have preschool 3 and prek 4. She went last year wehn she was 3 yrs old and this yr she is 4 yrs old. School starts tomorrow. They just sent me a letter that my payments tripled!! I was paying $75/mo last yr and this yr they want $225. I think that this is outrageous. I do make $4 more per hour than last yr however, in no way did my income triple!! How can it be so much? I really cant afford it and would HATE to not send my kid to pre-k. What should I do?

  1. I would ring the school and ask why the fees increased by a riduculous amount. If you can't afford it then you can't. No two ways about it.

Maybe you and another mother can take turns watching each other's kid? they still get to play, and you still get some time off.

  2. I would call them and ask if they have a program where they go according to your income. That's a crazy price for a pre-K.

  3. is it a private pre-k school because that is a big jump.I would talk to the school find out why you weren't informed way before school started and why is it so much. where do you live because some states offer voucher's for pre k you should look into that .

  4. Find a new school, thats way too expensive.

  5. apply for day care assistance through the human resources department.

  6. have you thought about public school??

go talk to them and find out the reason and if they have scholorships or financial aid

if not then look at different schools

  7. It was very inconsiderate for the school to notify you so late in the process. Ordinarily I would say that it would be best to stick to that school if you could manage. However, since they did this in so unprofessional a manner, I suspect their professionalism in general. Pull your daughter out, and tell them you might have stayed if they told you in July. Find another school in your price range.

  8. That's ridiculous. Talk to them and if they can't change it, then try to look for a different school. That's just messed up.

  9. Is this a private school?  What about putting her in a public school preschool?  I only paid $40/year for registration/book fee when my daughter was in 4-year old Kindergarten.  I can't imagine paying $75/month much less $225/month.

  10. I would talk to whoever is in charge at the school and ascertain the reason for the huge price hike.  It could be a mistake.  If not, then I would start looking around for other schools in the area that offer preK.

  11. You made out like a bandit... $75/mo? That was great but pre-k 3 is more of day care really and pre-k teaches more. $225 is an okay price for private school if you think about it, but maybe you can send her to a YMCA or public school.

  12. Talk to the school and explain your situation. That seams like your only option or maybe send her to another pre-school.

  13. There has to be a reason behind it or a mistake behind it. My newborn rate, sure, I can expect $225. But a pre-k student? Not just no but h**l no! Talk to the daycare director. This sounds a like a typo or it seems fishy!

    For a newborn at my daycare, it’s $230/wk. For 1 yr old’s, it’s $165/wk. 2 yr old’s, $135/wk.

I can’t imagine anyone paying that kind of money. Sounds like the teachers wanted a raise….

  14. It may be outrageous, but you don't have to send your child to any pre-school that you feel is overpriced.

Your choices are to pay or find another pre-school.

  15. I don't understand...  this is for full-time school?  The Pre-K's around here cost nearly $800/month!
