How is this supposed to work in my car?

How is my compositors supposed to work?What is its purpose?I have an 02 mitsubishi gallant if that's supposed to mean anything.

if you posted this on car audio then i think you may be asking about capacitors? if you are asking about this they are a reserve of  voltage for your amplifiers , in most instals  to  the amp  handling the subwofers . the cap what it does is that when you turn up the volume the amp needs more current , whitout one your headlamps may dim a little when the amp reproduces a low bass , but with a reserve of power at hand(the capacitor)  it gets what it needs from the capacitor hope this solves your question

A capacitor is for a sudden surge of power usually <2 seconds if the cap doesn't help you you're going to need a bigger alternator.
