Seriously they both take time to sweep off the ice. So what's the difference?

  1. No idea, but I think you just found a new fad! I'm gonna go to the local market and buy an octopus and then wear it as a hat. I'm serious, that's a great idea, much better then having pants hang to your knees.

  2. burnttea06 is right.  If you are allergic to fish it could be deadly or cause Salmonella and other issues.  Players with these issues have complained.  I say keep with tradition, but keep the fish juice out of it.  Throw a rubber octopus out there or do something to makes everyone happy.

I am prepared for the thumbs down...have at it.

  3. Bettman says the octopus 'gunk' can be hazardous to the players...

Either by getting on the players or freezing on to ice as a slipping hazard.

    Bogus. Let the tradition live.

You know people are going to throw them despite the ban!

  4. Do they only throw an octopus after ONE player scores THREE goals? You know a HAT TRICK. See a hat trick is RARE, and if Detroit wanted to throw an octopus instead of a hat that would be weird but whatever. They started throwing them way too often in my opinion.

  5. . Who cares if it takes a long time to remove off the ice? The fans should be able to celebrate the same way they've been celebrating for over 50 years!

There is no difference, Bettman is just full of S**t.

  6. Bettman's a pansy.  That's all there is to it.

This is HOCKEY.  Don't give me any 'tripping' hazard BS.  You're on ice.  You're going to fall, the hazard is always there.  This is a game where you can run over a player, or smash him against the boards, or punch him, and the comish is worrying about a TRIPPING hazard?

Give me a break.  He's needed to get the boot for over a decade.

  7. You are right, no difference, but it is tradition.  It s just that octopus is worse for the surface as it is necessary to scrape the guts from the ice.  They both delay the game, but I am for both.

  8. It's not the throwing, it's the twirling. When Al twirls it overhead, "matter" falls off the octopus and messes up the ice. (at least that's what they say).

  9. You can't wear the octopus home if it's snowing.

  10. Hats do not go SPlAAAAT when they hit the ice.

  11. hats go on your head

  12. hats dont ooze
