  1. Different races have different scoring systems. In the points race you get 20 points for lapping the peloton or lose twenty if you get lapped by them, and every ten laps there is a sprint where the winner gets five points, the second three points etc. The Madison is done in pairs where one cyclist races and the other rests until "tagged" by his team mate and the idea is to get a lap ahead of the rest of the racers and then it comes down to points gained in a series of sprints that take place during the race.
