How is / was Rey Mysterio overrated?

I'm always seeing people call Rey overrated.

I don't get it, to me he's not overrated at all.

He's had a few Cruiserweight Championships in WWE, a couple Tag Team Titles, and ONE World Title which was because of his connection with Eddie (not to be mean).

He occasionally main events, but mostly works the mid-card, and is at a point in his career where he can turn a new comer into a star. He is incredibly over with fans, and one of the few who connects with them.

He is easily the best high flyer WWE has ever had and one of the best in WCW.

I Know he's injury prone and doesn't do those crazy moves he did back in his heyday but WWE limits alot of his moveset so it makes sense.

How is he overrated?

Probably gets that tag for a few reasons:

1.  His size.  As that type of wrestler seemed to be popular on the West Coast, the rest of the country never seemed to warm up to it.  Midgets are a different story.

2.  Luche Libre.  He comes out of the same world that Mil Mascaras did but Mexican wrestling still seems popular with Hispanic audiences rather than Anglos.

3.  Promotor bias.  Vince Mc has always been known for favoring the big boys.  Just the way he is.

4. Storyline limits.  Doesn't seem like he ever got much to do, while other performers got more.  Not sure why.

5.  Worker vs talker.  He never seemed to have the gift of gab.  

That's how I see it at least.

I'll say he's overrated now definitely.  People talk about how great of a high flyer he is and say stuff like he'd be great in the X Division.

That is NOT TRUE.  I will be the first to admit, Rey Mysterio WAS a great high flyer in ECW and WCW.  His injuries have caught up to him though and he isn't the best wrestler without using his high flying arsenal.  WWE nerfed him a lot.

That's how he's overrated.  I'm sick of hearing he's the greatest of now or of all time, because he's not.  Basically he WAS great, not IS great.  And even then he wasn't the greatest.  That's pretty much why I say it.  Honestly, he was tons better in the past and got less respect than now when he isn't as good as he was.  In my book that does equal overrated.

hes not overrated, ive never said that. hes not the best, but hes deff. not the worst. he barely main events. when he had the belt, he was just a transitional champ and he lost all of the time

IDK who is calling Rey overrated IMO he is the only superstar who uses highflying moves in WWE

I haven't heard/seen anyone bash Rey Mysterio until he won the Royal Rumble back in 06'.

People said that the only reason he won was because Eddie Guerrero died in late '05.

I could guess that it has to do with the fact that he is not over 240 LBS.

I don't think Rey Mysterio is overrated.
