How is / who determines the fixtures drawn for the year?

It may be be a "dumb question" alert but I cant find the answer on any sites and Ive not really had an issue with fixtures til this year..

It just seems a little bias this year and I dont understand why Hawks dont meet Cats until round 17 and a few other question marks against the grounds teams meet at..

I was wondering if anyone knew wat the process is, or if there even is one..?

  1. I think it stinks and that they should get back to what they did in the good old days and make a draw a draw - Like out of a hat and be fair about it and all the answerers who mentioned money money money is the goal well they got that right.  The Swans (my team) have already played a couple of teams twice so far this season (Port and the Saints).  There is a lot wrong re fairness etc.  Even the teams that get to play so much on the MCG seems unfair to me - like good grounding for the Premiership if they are in it.   No team should have an advantage over the others like less travelling for certain teams I won't mention.  Keep those gate takings up no matter what!!!!

  2. The fixture is determined by how much money the AFL can make in one season.

Hence, the sides with the most fans will play twice to maximise revenue.

I dont totally agree with it since im a Collingwood fan and we are constantly critcised for our draw.

Obviously the Pies get the most fans to a game so we are going to play Carlton, Essendon etc twice.

Blame the AFL commision and the nerds that do the fixture not Collingwood!!

  3. They take a lot of things into consideration like money, money, money then they make a fixture to decide how they can make the most money, thats about it

  4. its a balancing act.The AFL commission does the draw after the finals. It gets requests from all clubs(eg play more night games)Its all done before the start of the season so the AFL cant be expected to predict hawthorn was going to be a force. Its all tries to be fair from the start of the season but as with all things you cant please everyone.

  5. I'd have to agree, the draw is really bad this year, the worst I've seen it. For instance, Collingwood do not meet Port until Round 20, and we haven't played since Round 3, 2007. I know that the AFL Comission create the draw, and it has to be approved, but I don't know the exact process.
