I get along great with my parents.  They're my best friends.  We don't agree on everything, but that's ok.  It wasn't always this way.  When I was in high school, my mother and I hated each other.  We fought about everything.  My dad wasn't really a factor.  I don't mean to imply that he wasn't in my life.  He just didn't have much of an impact.  He worked a lot and I was so busy that we didn't see each other much.  When I did see him, he just kept quiet about most things.  It was hard holding a conversation with him.

I'm so glad things have changed for the better!

tolerable... asian kids and parents don't have that "loving" relationship we want... it's more of a work relationship to see if we're doing well in school or careers and esp. for the first generation asian kids; it's hard for parents to understand some modern day values and that's when we clash :(

My step mother and I used to be best friends before my parents moved half way across the country.  Now instead of talking on the phone every night and spending every weekend together I just shoot them an occassional email with an update on what's going on in my life.
