How it all ended for New York Jets’ Rex Ryan
It has been a hard season for New York Jets, all along.
Accompanied by the failure to make it to the playoffs were the claims made by their coach, Rex Ryan that only served to add to their woes.
Much hype has been created by Ryan who had been consistent with his boasts but ended up nowhere near to what he kept saying of doing and achieving.
How it all started was when Ryan, recently coming off a humiliating loss to  Philadelphia Eagles, decided to take on New York Giants.
This move may have been a possible attempt to boost his team efforts and divert away the pressure from players on to him but it failed miserably adding to his shame.
Ryan had been quite adamant when he boasted of owning the town and saying that they were the better side for the next ten years. He didn’t contain himself merely to saying that he wanted the town but went on to claim the best position
in NFL not forgetting to throw in the phrase little brother constantly at the Giants.
"Quite honestly, I never came here to be little brother to anybody," said Ryan, dubbing as ridiculous any suggestion that the Giants were the better side.
That air of superiority could also be seen in his autobiography in which he didn’t miss out to hit on the Giants.
"I know it's going to p**s off every Giants fan to hear this, but here you go. We are the better team. We are the big brother. (we are) going to remain the better team for the next 10 years," Ryan wrote in his autobiography.
So, all guns were ready for him when Jets succumbed to the Giants the following week, but Ryan was ready all along to take on the blame.
“If we lose, it’s coming right down on me, and I can handle it. I hope I don’t have to.” Ryan said.
However, the coach found an opportunity of getting away at that time. He saw a chance to reach the playoffs, if they defeated Miami Dolphins, and he fully capitalised on it to save face.
Now Ryan talked of making it to the Super Bowl. That would surely have made many laughing but if anyone made the Jets so vulnerable to disgrace, embarrassment and criticism; it was none other but their own coach.
The next was the final blow to the boastful coach.
A shocking defeat at the hands of one of the weakest team in NFL had them eliminated from the playoff race and opened the road to hoards of criticism, raining in on the Jets and Ryan.
This time Ryan had no opportunity available to make a humble exit.
There could not have been a worst scenario awaiting Ryan.
If there was anything consistent with Ryan in the ending weeks of the season, it was his boasts that continued to echo through NFL. And all his boasts brought in a shameful and embarrassing ending for Ryan.
However, many changes were not witnessed in the coach who went through a rebuttal of his claims.
Ryan seems defiant as usual with his eyes now possibly turned towards the next season.
Will he return back to making claims of reaching the Super Bowl one more time? And will he also persist again that the town belongs to the Jets? All that seems very much possible.
