  1. several factors..bullet impact bullets from a riffle will have greater impact (ballistics) faster.more damage created. caliber (38 same as 357 with a lot less power speed impact) in comparison riffle impact is always fps. than hand gun velocity..thus greater impact..example: a 44 magnum hand gun velocity (same cartridge) vs. 44 magnum rifle, the riffle has a greater velocity than the hand gun because of barrel length..thus the 44 magnum riffle will do considerably more damage...all this is an apple to apple comparison..bullet entry bullet exit at scene of crime.because of velocity, bullets from a hand gun (semi-auto) only, with a speed slower than the speed of sound can utilize a silencer..a riffle cannot unless it is slower than the speed of sound, most cases thus it would not be an apple to apple comparison..revolvers cannot be silenced due to cylinder jump gap at barrel..now first caliber size..bullet dia...damage created at the scene..was noise noted?..(use of silencer to be considered in connection with cartridge found at scene..silencer can only be used with any velocity (fps) under the speed of sound..thus less impact(damage from bullet regardless of caliber)

  2. If it was from a raffle, there should be a winning ticket lying around somewhere.

  3. chances are... it wouldnt have been fired from a raffle, therefore it must have been from a revolver.

  4. A bullet fired from a revolver will have markings unique from any other bullet at the barrel of the revolver will 'mark' the fired projectile.

A bullet fired from a raffle will have 'winner' written on it.

  5. My shot gun only takes shells, not bullets.

    Good luck on the raffle!

  6. If you mean rifle and not raffle you would see marks on the bullet from the channels in the side of the rifle, the very rifling that gives the rifle its name.

The grooves in the barrel spin the bullet and increase the stability, thus allowing longer shots.

  7. I suspect you mean "rifle" old chap.

Rifles are called that because they have "rifling" in the barrel - a series of cork-s***w shaped grooves which mean that the bullet that they fire twists through the air and is more stable than bullets fired from old-fashioned muskets.

Revolvers also have rifling in their barrels, but they have much narrower barrels (they are said to be "of smaller calibre", and that's what it means). Firearms also have different combinations of this rifling in respect to how tight the corkscrew rifling is cut. These difference in rifling, lands (the technical terms for the raised bits) and grooves allow firearms experts to differentiate between different weapons, subsets of weapons and indeed even between different guns of the same type and manufacture, just by looking at the shells they've fired.

    Clever eh?
