  1. Diesel fuel is one of the many fractions of crude oil. Gasoline is another.

Cooking oil is plant oils, similar to the oils obtained from fractional distillation of the fossil fuel, petroleum.

It is strained and some engines can be adjusted to burn it directly.

Biodiesel refers to any fuel oil made from plants or a mixture with diesel.

  2. Basically glycerine is removed from the cooking oil to make biodeisel.  The complete process can be viewed on the following:http://www.biodiesel.org/pdf_files/fuelf...

More information about biodeisel can be found on this website: http://www.biodiesel.org/resources/biodi...

  3. Biodiesel refers to a diesel-equivalent, processed fuel derived from biological sources (such as vegetable oils), which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles.

It is produced through a process known as transesterified. As complex as this sounds it is a very simple process involving two chemicals, methanol and caustic soda. Thousands of people regularly produce their own biodiesel.

The benefit of biodiesel is that it can be produced relatively cheap. In calculations I have carried out in a feasibility study, I could produce biodiesel for £0.10 / $0.20 per litre from waste vegetable oil. Biodiesel releases about 60% less carbon dioxide than that of petroleum diesel.

You should however note in some states and countries to produce biodiesel you may require a Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) Permit. The regulations vary so you should check with your local Department of Environment.

Note before using biodiesel you should check that the diesel car you are intending to use bio diesel is suitable, there is even variation between models.

Some states and countries impose taxes on biodiesel if they are resold (or even used for personal use), often these are lower than those of ordinary diesel. The UK currently imposes a fee of £0.285 ($0.57) a litre, this is however £0.200 ($0.40) less than that of petroleum diesel.
