  1. Rather, how jaded is our media to hype the way they do? It is the media, newsgourps, commentators, reporters, etc, that decide what emphasis even the smallest, most innocent remark wil be given. They distort and expand at will.

  2. It's a soundbite -- and therefore a media thing.

Once upon a time, it was common for US children to be versed in a second language like Latin, Spanish, French or German.   Many children of immigrant parents kept the traditions and language of their background with them, like Italian, Polish or even in some rare cases, Irish (not accented English) or Welsh.

Keep in mind that there are many job opportunities for those with multilingual capabilities, and it's it proven that children versed in more than one language tend to do well in school overall.

A growing popular language study in the US is Mandarin Chinese, as more and more commerce is done with China.

I would love for all children of the US to have a better education, and skits like the Tonight Show's  "Jay walking" to be a thing of the dumb past.

I resent what he said.  No one learned Yiddish when my Grandfather came over.  No one learned Italian or German when they came over.  Kids should learn another language, but immigration should not decide what one it should be.

  4. Money talks; especially money from Oprah and Europe.

  5. Completely separate of what people think of Obama as a candidate or not....

    1.  Being multi-lingual is a good thing.  It's not just learning another language, it's about being smarter about the world.

    2.  Today, too many Americans react to Mexicans and hispanics like previous generations did to Italians and Irish.

    3.  I don't think it's odd.  I once heard John McCain say that we should forgive the North Vietnamese.  I disagree vehemently with that but you know what?  Just because I disagree with that position doesn't mean I also think it's a cause celebre or that it should dominate the news waves.

Here's a news flash for you:  inflation is up, we've got a huge deficit, we're paying huge amounts at the pump, some major financial institutions have problems and our country is in two wars.  I would be massively worried if a comment about "forgiving the Vietnamese" or "all school kids should learn Spanish" got more than 20 minutes coverage.  We've got more important fish to fry here.

  6. C'est pas que il pense que votre enfants doit parle l'Espangol pour satisfaire les immigrants c'est parce que d'aprendre un langue est un partie important d'etre un citoyen du la monde.

In all honesty what's the problem with teaching another language to American children, among other things it teaches that the things that unite humanity are far greater than the things that divide us.

It's not about immigration necessarily, it's that Mexico is your only neighbor that speaks another language and that's Spanish, not to mention the vast majority of South America.
