  1. Large, the veteran will get the full corp press, 21 gun salute, and the privilege for the family in knowing your grandfather was a true hero.

  2. its a cemetery for war veterans and people who severed our country  its a big Honor not all people are buried there

  3. Its a big honor it means you fought for your country and you deserve it.

  4. Arlington is almost full.  The plots are severely limited.  To be buried there requires that the veteran was well-decorated, silver star or above, or combat wounded (Purple Heart, Bronze Star or both in WWII).

My thanks to your grandfather for his service.  And my condolences to you for your loss.

  5. It's, the finest thing we can do to honor him.

  6. It really is an honor to be buried there...but it's not like you are applying for a Platinium Visa Card. Any honorably discharged deceased veteran can get buried there....just like any other veteran's cemetery. The next of kin have to show the DD-214 discharge papers and other documents such as a coroner's report (cause of death certificate) and proof of US citizenship. (although the citizenship requirements may have changed).

Of course...he will also receive the 21 gun salute and flag presented to the next of kin. I have no idea if their are fees and expenses for this privilledge. Be sure to give a good salute to this hero as they play Taps for him on the bugle.

    Sorry for your Loss

  7. Retired military, recipients of Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star or Purple Heart, Active Duty Personnel, or certain holders of high office who are also veterans can be BURIED at Arlington.

All veterans who meet the service criteria (honorable discharge, wartime service, or 2 years active duty of peacetime service) can be interred in the columbarium.

As it stands now, only deceased officers or MOH recipients get the caisson, band, and escort troops. Flag officers get a gun salute. Enlisted people get a simpler burial ceremony (firing party, pall bearers, and bugler).

I have heard that some Iraq and Afghanistan vets are petitioning the government to get full burial honors for our fallen heroes killed in action in Iraq, Afghanistan, and future wars, regardless of rank. I'm all for that.

  8. Sorry for your loss my brother.

When my Father went home to God they asked my Mother if she wanted him interred there.

    Your Gramp was true Superhero!

    I'll be praying for you.

    Tony
