I'm looking for legitimate government grant sources, preferably the free ones that don't have to be paid back. If anyone has real information: I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Never heard of them.....

Government grants for school only fall into Title IV funding categories (Pell, FSEOG, ACG, etc)

You determine eligibility for these by completing the FAFSA, and for some, based on the funding available to your school -

You need to be very careful applying for grants and scholarships.  No grant or scholarship will ever require money.  Remember that.

You can speak to financial aid reps at your school (if they are willing to assist you, some are pretty lazy and do the bare minimum), check your state government website to look for state sponsored grants, and depending on what field you want to get into, look at some larger corporations that could hire you in that field and apply through them.  Coca-cola, Pepsi, Microsoft, Ford, GM, Wal-Mart, etc all have excellent scholarship programs.

    for an initial reference try

    Hope this helps
