I am 17 years old and began having period at the age of 11. In the first few years, my period was pretty normal. Most of the time it is regular, sometimes missed a few days/weeks or so. It had a pattern, but then in the last two years my period was irregular. Most of the time I didn't have my period for 2 or 3 months. It was like never regular anymore. However, I never went to check with a gynecologists to see whats up which I should have. Now, I haven't had my period for over 3 months. I think my last period was on May 18th. Plus, I guarantee I am not pregnant cuz I've never been sexually active...so it's definitely not pregnancy that caused the missed period. I'm on summer vacation now..so you can guess that I didn't deal with much stress..except when I was in this college program for 5 weeks and taking classes there. I think it might be cuz a few weeks ago I started a diet(still on a diet now) and lost 3 pounds plus playing tennis from mon-fri every week. I don't know why I've missed my period for this LONG. Can you guys tell me what might be causing the delay?!

I am planning to get a check-up with a gynecologist to see if everything's okay soon. But I heard someone said that PCOS is common among teens...and teens who have irregular periods constantly. I'm really worried that I might have PCOS!!! Plus, I did some research on PCOS and it said you can never have a baby!! I want to have babies in the future! How likely am I to be diagnosed with PCOS?! Will a gynecologist be able to find out if have PCOS? PLEASE HELP ME!

Thank you! ;)

  1. PCOS is common among teen through early 30s for being diagnosed.  However some of your information is incorrect.  I have PCOS and have done a lot of research on this and have talked it over with my doctor.  It is still possible to have a baby with PCOS, just a little harder than normal.  There are also a lot of tests that will need to be done.... just having an irregular period does not mean you have PCOS.  Please check out soulcysters.net for more information.
