  1. You can tell the Army whatever you want. Its the luck of the draw when you get deployed and where you go to. You could get lucky and not get deployed through a 3 year contract. But then again you could get unlucky and spend 2 out of those 3 years in Jalalabad or something. If you enlist for 3+ years chances are you will end up going somewhere, and getting yourself into some trouble. We are the Infantry though, we always come out at our best.


  2. When I joined the military it was for the sole purpose of seeing combat. Simply choose a Ranger option or Airborne Assigned to the 82nd and you are guaranteed to get your wish on a four year enlistment. It has been a given since 1983.  

  3. When you enlist, you can try to get a specific duty station in your contract...if they can do that, pick one that is highly deployable. That way, your odds will be better for deploying.  

  4. You might never see intense combat, but you're going to see a lot of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).  That's what you should be worried about.
