neigbor had taken down a bradford pear tree and one of the larger branches must have broken off the two feet portion of the trees.

since they have slightly yellowed, but it might be due to the dry hot weather as well (even though they have been getting watered reguraly every few days.

why and how so in your opinion that this may have caused some shock?

Thanks for your answers!

  1. Gee,marty, where you're from they spell that 'neighbour'...

  2. If the tree had been the same species, it might have passed on a disease - a virus or some bacteria, but pear trees infecting pines is highly unlikely.

More likely due to dry hot weather. Unless it is damaged branches just dying off.
