  1. Never take Aciphex. If you want to get rid of heartburn instantly and safely, take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. It may burn going down, but it takes the heartburn away instantly. Read Kevin Trudeau's books, Natural Cures and More Natural Cures.

  2. If your doctor suspects an ulcer, I hope there is more work to be done than just taking the Aciphex.

I have gastritis and acid reflux and found aciphex to be both expensive and useless. If , within a few days, you don't notice a significant decrease in heartburn and stomach pain, I would speak with your doctor again and see if maybe prilosec or something like zantac might work better for you.

I ended up with generic zantac working the best for me after months of taking aciphex. One month of zantac proved to show much more progress in controlling the acid reflux than 6 months of aciphex and 2 months of prilosec.

Neither aciphex nor any other acid reducer /acid blocker is going to automatically heal an ulcer. It just gives the ulcer a better chance to heal, devoid of excess acid that works to corrode the ulcer further.

I had an upper G.I. done at a hospital ( x-rays where they have you drink some foul liquid while they follow it with the x-ray, to find out whether or not you have reflux and why and if you have ulcers, etc. ) and I would hope your doctor has referred you to have the same done. I also have seen one of those gastro-whatever specialist and had the nice little camera down my throat and into my stomach while I was knocked out. That's really the only way to get a "real" diagnosis and plan for the future.

In the meantime, I would suggest the following:

    1. Elevate the head of your bed. This means find something sturdy , lift up the head of your bed, and put the legs of the bed on that something sturdy. Buy a long, thick board to set the legs on if nothing else. Make sure it won't slip off. Sleeping on extra pillows at your head won't help... it's not the same thing.

    2. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, peppermint anything, soda - diet or otherwise, coffee and tea - except herbal teas, anything carbonated, orange or other citrus fruits or fruit drinks, tomatoes and anything containing tomatoes ( pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce... you can get a pizza with no sauce. I get hamburger pizza with black olives, no sauce), and anything spicy or highly seasoned.

    3. Don't eat within at least two hours before laying down. Three hours would be better.

    4. Eat food bland. Salt might be ok, but not pepper or any other seasonings.

    5. Don't eat large meals. Eat smaller meals but eat them more often, unless you're overweight. If you're overweight, just eat the smaller meals, lol. Losing weight will help with the acid reflux drastically. There won't be so much weight pushing on your stomach when you lay down, making the acid want to slosh up into your esophagus and cause your heartburn.

    6. Don't eat fried foods. Don't eat greasy food. Don't eat fried, greasy foods.

    7. If you smoke, stop. If you drink alcohol, stop. If you use smokeless tobacco products, stop.

If you find that you do have an ulcer or gastritis, realize that this is not a temporary life change. You must permanently alter your lifestyle to alleviate the problem and avoid the pain.

  3. It will start working once you are taking it. keep on taking it as long as your Doctor has prescribed this medicine will heal your ulcer and heartburn. I have been on Aciphex and it has been very helpful.
