Also, what is the preferred method of transport for 2 people?

We're staying in Dublin, but I want to lay my lips upon that most blessed of stones while in the land of my forefathers.

  1. About 4 hours from Dublin to Blarney by car. I suggest you drive, you can fly or take the train from Dublin to Cork but then you'd have to get a bus to Blarney... And if you have a car you can drive around and see more of the area, it's very nice. It's not worth driving 4 hours just to kiss the stone!

  2. by car about 5 hours

    by plane about 45 mins

and not sure anbout the train

also the bus from bus arais(not spelt rite) at the end of the keys next to the isfc and the luas line

  3. About 5 hours in total. You could also take the train from Dublin Heuston to Cork, which takes about 3 hours, and then take the bus out to Blarney, which shouldn't take more than half an hour tops.

    bus: www.buseireann.ie

Driving is also good, you could fly from Cork to Dublin also, but then you'd have to get yourself into Cork city and back out to Blarney, as the airport is on the other side of the city.

  4. Travelling in Ireland can be difficult, especially for tourists. The country roads are windy, narrow and not well marked, and the motorways can be very congested, because the infrastructure isn't up to the population changes in the last decade. So, while the driving time of 4-5 hours is correct, keep in mind that it could be an annoying trip.

I had a cousin visiting who took his family on the train, seemed to think it went well. Also, I think the tourist busses from Dublin aren't a bad choice. They'll get you there and back safely and no hassle.

  5. abt 4-5 hours..lol

  6. I think train or bus would be the easiest.  The train costs about €60 for a return ticket; the bus €18.  The train will take about 2.5-3 hours, the bus about 4 hours.  Once you get to Cork, there's a bus that goes from the bus station in Cork to Blarney.  Here's the timetable:

    Click on route 224.

The train leaves Dublin for Cork every hour, on the hour.  The bus leaves Dublin every two hours (even numbers) from 8am to 6pm.
