and what they do in each level,

and how long do they stay in each position and when they leave the firm to do their own.

Generally, a public accounting firm follows the following:

Staff accountant

Senior accountant

Manager

Senior manager

Partner

......or some structure.  Time in a level depends on skills and the overall structure of the organization.

People leave to join other public firms or go into private accounting.
