Question:

How long after I stop taking Doxycycline can I go tanning?

I have been taking Doxycycline (an antibiotic) for 3 days. The doc says to stay out of the sun. My last pill I took this morning. I had only 6 pills altogether. When can I start tanning again? I know that it stays in a person's system for a while after they stop taking it. But is that just for people who take a lot of them for a while? I want to tan tomorrow. Would that be possible without me burning?

  1. Minimum of 3-4 days out of direct sun, and out of the tanning booth.  (Most patient information sheets will tell you 7 days.)

(I learned the hard way, and you don't want to go down that road!!)

  2. You should not go tanning regardless of the antibiotics. Tanning leads to not only to an increased risk of cancer (of all types) but also premature aging.

Source: my friend's mother died (age: 62) from a melanoma that spread from her foot to her lungs.
