How long after a c-section can I have a bath?

I know my doctor answered this question and now I can't remember his answer.

I had a c-section 3 weeks ago and I'm healing very well. I am still having some light/occasional vaginal bleeding but other than that I've been doing great.

Just today I'm very sore after shopping all day and taking both my boys to a drs appointment and I would KILL for just a 10 minute soak in warm water, even without any soap or anything. Unfortunately, I can't shower because my apartment has only a tub. I've been kneeling down in it and pouring water over myself. Do you think it's ok for a warm bath if I don't use soap or shampoo and just soak?

  1. congrats on your son!

  2. Oh it's fine, you can shampoo and soak it up if you like too. I took my first bath after my stitches were taken out, only a week after my c-section. My doctor said it would be fine at that stage. As long as the stitches are out and the incision is completely healed over it's okay. Even if you have a few scabs left, it's still okay to take a bath.

Enjoy it! There's nothing like that first, long soak after a c-section.

  3. With mine I didn't take a bath until my scare was completely healed, like no scab nothing.  I just wanted to be on the safe side.  I had internal staples put in though.  I don't know what you have.  But I didn't want an infection or anything.  then again I was leary about taking a shower, but I did!!!  Don't want to stink!! lol..
