How long after a holiday can you claim off of you insurance?

My bags were lost by continental airlines and we had to pay $120 on clothes etc but we forgot to claim off our insurance. It was a year ago but is that too long?

Yep, it's too long.  

The airline requires you to place your claim within 48 hours.
