How long after jaw surgery were you able to eat/chew regular food?

  1. It really depends if you keep up with good hygiene and you are using your mouth rinse and not talking to much you should be fine within 8-10 weeks. But it also depends on the severity of your surgery and/or injury. I have both an open bite and over bite so my surgery was a bit more complex and I was out for 14 weeks. Best of luck, and I hope you heal fast. PS Don't try and blend solid foods, it ruins them for you later and they are very gross haha.


  2. 6 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks dependent on the surgeon and in some cases longer if the surgeon is really anal about it, or if you had a lot of complex work done.

  3. The site below on jaw surgery says this:

    With osteotomies of the jaws, you will need to be in tight elastics between your top and lower teeth for the first 2-4 weeks and light elastics for 2-4 weeks after that, depending upon the type of operation and your occlusion. For the first 2-4 weeks you will need to be on blended food and nutritional drinks, going on to a soft diet after that.
