How long after wisdom tooth removal are you at risk for dry socket?

Also I would like to know when can you start drinking from a straw * that is the main thing i need to know! -thanks sooo much -Taylor :D

  1. I would wait a week. I got all four of my wisdom teeth out. and exactly 1 month later, I got an infection & had to get surgery again :( WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! So whatever they tell you to do & not to do, make sure you listen.

The risk period is half an hour to 24 hours but only due to factors like, drinking thru a straw, gargling , brushing the area, sucking in air,  meddling the area with ur tongue, removng the cotton that was placed by ur dentist and placing a fresh ' dry' cotton and also if the xtraction was too traumatic and long. Dry socket happens only because of the above and avoid straw for atleast 48 hrs. Take utmost care !!

  3. I had a wisdom tooth surgicaly removed and they told me not to smoke or drink from a straw for a week. However the dental assistant said 24-48 hours
