How long after wisdom tooth removal are you at risk for dry socket?

Also I would like to know when can you start drinking from a straw * that is the main thing i need to know! -thanks sooo much -Taylor :D

I would wait a week. I got all four of my wisdom teeth out. and exactly 1 month later, I got an infection & had to get surgery again :( WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! So whatever they tell you to do & not to do, make sure you listen.

The risk period is half an hour to 24 hours but only due to factors like, drinking thru a straw, gargling , brushing the area, sucking in air,  meddling the area with ur tongue, removng the cotton that was placed by ur dentist and placing a fresh ' dry' cotton and also if the xtraction was too traumatic and long. Dry socket happens only because of the above and avoid straw for atleast 48 hrs. Take utmost care !!

I had a wisdom tooth surgicaly removed and they told me not to smoke or drink from a straw for a week. However the dental assistant said 24-48 hours
