My niece bought a used car Saturday afternoon and now she is reconsidering the purchase. Is there a specific amount of time she has to tell them she doesn't want it or is it a done deal? Also she traded in a car, would she get the trade in back if she turned the new one in?

  1. There are some dealerships that will allow you the grace period of a changed mind. I would ask that up front.

Otherwise once you have signed the pappers it is a contract you can not get out of. You entered into an agreement when you sign on the dotted line and there is no fight to get out of it.

  2. The realistic answer is this: she can "reconsider" it all she wants, but once she signs paperwork and drives it off the lot, it's hers.

Some folks may answer with "she has 3 days, 72 hrs, etc.", however that does not apply to vehicle purchases. Others may even spout the Lemon Law, which would not apply here at all.

  3. There is no period of time to "reconsider a car purchase" in any state. When buying a car, you had better know what you want, how much you can afford, and so forth, BEFORE YOU BUY IT! Once the papers are signed, it's a done deal. Nobody forced her to buy that car. Maybe she'll learn from this.

There's no 3 days or even 3 minutes to change your mind once you've signed the contract.

  4. Usually it is three days from purchase.

  5. what is usually termed '' buyer's remorse'' laws only apply to new products,,like brand new cars.

Used products,,like second hand cars,,,are not covered usually.

The trade in might not even be in thier possession anymore.
