I stopped breastfeeding my son because it seemed my supply was dwindling but i now know that was due to me not eating enough and being stressed and tired. I don't have any milk now and was wondering how i could get it back and how long is too long to have waited?

  1. Women who have never given birth are able to produce milk so it's never too late.

    How to:

  2. Any time.

Grandmothers have been known to relactate for their grandchildren.

  3. Women who adopt are sometimes able to breastfeed their children, there is hope.  : )

I stopped breastfeeding when my son was 4 months old.  2 weeks later I couldn't get over the guilt and started the relactation process (I had 1-2 drops of milk at that point, at best).  It has been approx 6 weeks (I think?) since I started relactating.  My full supply isn't back but I'm still noticing a slight increase daily.  I was able to send 5 oz bottles to daycare today (and I was so happy!), whereas, I was sending 4oz bottles last week.  Kellymom is a great site to find info on relactating.  I recommend talking/ working w/ a lactation consultant.  Good luck!!!

ETA:  Even though it's possible doesn't mean it will always work.  I'm adding this b/c I don't want you to get discouraged if it doesn't; I don't know your situation.  I've read in some places that there is a 50/50 chance.  Even when it does work, it's not an easy job.  It's definitely worth a try though!!!
