How long and how fast?

I am a 16 year old girl that runs distances from 800 meters and under. I am now in my off season until the end of November and I was curious to how long I should run and at what pace I should run at. Also how often should I run?

  1. Since you're in the off season for quite sometimes, it'd be smarter to just focus on running longer and slower to really build up that endurance.

    Pick a distance and once you can run that comfortably, try picking up the pace and adding in speedwork outs. Since you're an 800m runner, you'll probably be used in the 400m, so endurance will be important for these events. With that being said, they're both intensly strong events, so work on aerobic strength workout (high reps, low rest) and general speed enhancement and sprint work outs (shower distance, but still higher reps). Also work on lifting for upper body to generate power when you run.

    Try running 5 to 7 times a week and once you add in speed workouts, do them 1 to 3 times a week.
