  2. That depends on the herbs.  For small herbs like basil, rosemary, etc., you don't need much room.

    But if you have yarrow, tansy, comfrey, etc, these can be quite tall.

    If you plant mint, it will spread via the roots, so it would be better to put it into a container.

  3. I grow all of my herbs in half a whiskey barrel. What I love about it:

    1. It looks nice.

    2. It takes up very little space on my patio.

    3. No bending over to pinch back and harvest the herbs!

    4. It cost only about $25 at a local garden center.

    5. Because there's so much dirt in the barrel, my parsley, mint, chives, and other perennials have no trouble wintering over.

  4. A 2 foot by 4 foot space should be enough room for most families.  Enough for rosemary, basil, oregano, parsley and chives.
