  1. Three twenty minute periods (regulation).

With the stops for penalties and offsides.....about two hours.

  2. 60 minutes in all but in the regular season if the game is tied it goes to overtime then if it is still tied then it goes to shootout. in the postseason if the game is tied after 60 minutes then it goes to Overtimes until someone wins.

  3. You're looking at two or three hours for your average regular season hockey game. That breaks down to three 20-minute periods with a 15-minute break between the 1st and 2nd and a 15 minute break between the 2nd and 3rd, plus stoppages in play, TV time outs, and/or play reviews. Sounds like a long time, but it's time well spent!

  4. There are three 20 minute periods.

If the game is tied after three periods:

In a regular season game, they play a five minute overtime(4 on 4 instead of 5 on 5). The first team to score wins. If they finish the five minute overtime and the score is still tied, they play a shootout. In the shootout each team selects three skaters and the team that scores the most in the shootout wins. If it is still tied after the three shooters, each team selects another shooter and they keep playing until one player scores and the player from the other team doesn't.

In a PLAYOFF game- if the score is tied after the three periods, they play 20 minute overtime periods(5 on 5) until one team scores. Once that 20 minute overtime period is over, they play another 20 minute overtime period and keep doing that until a team scores. In the playoffs this year there was a game that went to 4 overtimes.

  5. It depends on the level but I know the average AHL game is 2 1/2 hours long, barring overtime and puck drop being on time.

  6. There are 20 minutes in a period, with 3 regulation periods. After that, it's followed by more 20 minute periods in PLAYOFF overtime until someone scores. Think of it as if the game just continued normally, except with more periods and sudden death in OT. In the regular seaon it's just 5 minute sudden death overtime and then a shootout.

Intermission is 17 minutes, with two intermissions.  One after each period except the third, unless it's the playoffs and they continue until the game is over.

NHL games are roughly 2.5 hours if there aren't a lot of fights or stoppages.

  7. 3 20 minute periods that stop and start so about 2-3 hours
