  1. an hour, maybe two. but i think you can choose at most places - so depends on how long you book them for.

  2. While a lesson can last anywhere from a hour to a few hours, you can't really learn to ski in a day. She can get the basics which is good but she may not be able to handle the slopes. If you are a good skier then you can teach her how to do the snowplow and just have some fun together. This way you are together and having a good time. I will also mention that you may not want to go on anything above a Green Circle till she is comfortable skiing the easy stuff. Have fun and dress warm.

  3. Make sure she gets a lesson.  Just get her an all area ticket not beginner, just in case she wants to go on other lifts.  Usually its an hour lesson.

  4. The longest lessons i've been on were 4-5 hours long (full day). I really enjoyed it though. Half day lessons are normally 2hrs. at the place i go.

  5. the mountain i work at does hour lessons for the toddlers, due to the short attention span at that age, and a hour and a half for the other lessons.  I would say generally it ranges between one to two hours at any given mountain.  Hope your friend enjoys it.

  6. Usually about 45 minutes to an hour, but you can ask for more.

If she/he had never gone skiing before, the instructor will teach only the basics (Turn and stop by making a "V" the skis) at a flat aerial. Instructors don't take beginners to the slopes.

With that someone is able to go an a Blue, beginner's run.

After the lesson, go ski together but only at Blue runs.

  7. I went skiing for the first time a few days ago. My first beginner runs (on the bunny hills) were horrible. I finally got the hang of it and moved on to the slopes. In fact, I went on all slopes: beginner, more difficult, and most difficult. Mind you, the runs were not very difficult (even the so-called "most difficult"). I think it all depends on the person and how fast s/he is able to adapt to skiing w/out falling down. I was able to learn fast, without an instructor. If your friend has never ice skated before (I found having skated in the past really helped me when it came to skiing), then I would expect at least 2-4 hours on the bunny hills with an instructor.

Just a thought, couldn't you save your friend some money and teach her (or him) how to ski? As long as you are encouraging and patient, I think it would work.

    Good luck and happy skiing!

  8. A ski lesson will vary with the area ski school. 1 hour to several, depending on what you register, a group lesson if it's a small group will be the best value. Do both of you a favor and stay away from the lesson so your friend can concentrate on the lesson.  Do not force them up a lift that they are not skilled at using. That is what you are hiring the instructor to do.   Enjoy the evening. Skiing is a great sport, take your time and let your friend learn correctly with a qualified professional instructor.  Be supportive, and encouraging, not a coach.
