First make a list of most important things that you will need or you must need and pack them before 2 days. If you think you may need some additional things and you have space then pack them the the previous day while you may leave early and you are ready to go.

I would suggest gathering your things and working out what you have about a week before.

Then you have a week to make sure you have everything you need for your trip; and have plenty of time to buy any things you forgot about.

I would then say start actually putting things in your suitcase two days before.
