How long before Navy housing allowance Kicks In?

My boyfriend and I are getting married next month. He's an E4 in the Navy and we're trying to plan financially. How long after we get married before our housing allowance will show up in his check?

before anything will kick in, he will need to show the finance folks the marriage certificate. Then, after that, he should see BAH and BAS about a month later. If his finance people are idiots, it could take longer, but he will get back pay.

You can go to military.com and find out what he should get paid. They have pay charts, and BAH calculator there.

expect 30 days after DEERS is updated.. possibly 6 weeks.  it will be retroactive to the date of the wedding.

He'll get it retroactive to the day he got married.  As soon as he gets a certified copy of the marriage certificate to his personnel office they'll submit the change.  Usually it's not the upcoming payday but the one after that.

It can take up to 2 months before BAH will start in his pay after the paperwork has been filed.  It will be backdated to the date you got married though.  Make sure that you have several copies of the marriage certificate.

Now if he is living in barracks there can be a problem with that, normally these days he will have to move out of barracks for BAH to start up, they are not allowing both BAH and living in barracks.  If necessary (while not advised) he can ask for a BAH advance to pay for 1st month's rent, deposit etc.. If you are going to move into housing then you will not see BAH.

For the person that commented about BAS with the Navy that is paid all the time except in Boot Camp.  It doesn't matter if he is married or single.  If he is stationed on a ship then it is automatically deducted each month except for around $40 whether you eat in the ship's galley or not.
