How long before a check comes back unpaid?

i recently sold something on ebay. The man sent me a personal check and i cashed it monday.

Before so doing, i called his bank and asked if i would be able to process the check. They asked for the check# and amount and said that i should be fine as of that day.

I cashed it but want to see how long, from the time that I cashed it in utah Monday, to the time it gets processed at his bank in NJ, and if it bounces, what is the timeframe that my bank will remove the funds? I just want to make sure before i send my item valued at $2000.00

it can take 7 to 10 days

Checks take 10-14 days to clear.

Personal checks take up to 10 days to clear.  When you call your bank as if the check has CLEARED, not if it has processed.
