I just found out we were in close quarters with a kid that had lice over the weekend. Can they lay eggs even if it's only been 2 days?

  1. 3 days

  2. Adult Lice lay about 5 egg's every 12 hours so yes, Check yourself and get treated.

  3. They can lay eggs immediately.

  4. Just like anyone that is pregnant, the birth time is dependent on when they got pregnant.  So they can lay eggs at any time and they lay about 15 to 20 at a time.

Since it is still early into the process for you, I would NOT suggest that you go out and buy RID or some other chemical and dump it on your head.   Instead, you should be able to treat this with a chemical free solution that immobilizes the lice and dissolves the glue that is holding the nits (eggs) onot yoru hair.  since it is chemical free, it is safe to use.

You should check out the products under the name brand of NitFree and get their mousse and their comb and maybe some Neon Nits and Mint Spray as well.    These worked for us when our daughter got lice and they are much safer than the chemical treatments which do nto even kill the eggs and come with such cheap combs that they leave nits behind.

Here is the Canadian site and I know it links to a US and International site.

Good luck.  Don't panic and even if you have used the store shampoo, consider that alot of lice are becoming chemical resistent these days.

  5. Don't take any chances, just go to the store and buy whichever product stops lice.

  6. Go buy some RID and place your question under the HEALTH CATEGORY.
