How long before someone can do a chargeback on me?

I have a merchant account and was wondering since I have little protection on using it for services I do like website design, if a customer attempted to get there money back how long before this is possible?

or how long after a charge can a consumer do a chargeback

  1. I've had instances of chargeback 6 months after the charge was made -- the person did not realize they were a victim of identity theft and their credit card stolen.

    The problem with online business is that it is hard to appeal to credit card companies. I suggest you let your clients physically sign the contracts (and have a contract in the first place) so you can show that when the client files for a chargeback.
