  1. I went to a bridal shop and got officially measured for a bridal gown.  Then I came home a looked on David's Bridal website. I found the dress I liked.  I ordered on the 31st of July, and the dress arrived on August 4th.  How's that for service?!  The dress only needs slight alterations, and I'll be ready to stroll down the aisle on October 4, 2008!

In the six to eight month window, weight could fluctuate so much!

  2. Get your dress any time between 6 and 12 monthes before the wedding. If the dress has to be ordered it could take 3 monthes to arrive and alterations usually can take 2 to 3 monthes depending on how busy they are. So the sooner  you get your dress the better.

  3. I'm getting mine in December - January time.

    My wedding is next October.

That is about eight months before the wedding.

I'm getting then, because it's ON SALE, because it's off season and it's a good time

I think its a good time to get the dress, not too soon and it isn't rushing things!

  4. 6-8 months prior is when you should order it. Then get alterations done. 2 months before the wedding go in for a second fitting to make sure everything's perfect.

  5. 6 to 8 months. Mine took 6 months to be made and delivered. That leaves you time for alterations as well.

  6. It depends on the type of dress you want. Custom made? Designer gown?? As early as possible. That gives you time to provide feedback as far as alteration goes.

If you want what's already on the rack, then provided that you will stay on your current weigh, then I'd say 5-6 months before.

It's always a good thing to have the wedding dress already bought in advance as possible. This way each time you check it out in your closet, you'll remember the reason to look forward to wearing it on your wedding day.

p.s. I got engaged in December 06 and bought my gown January 07 to a target size that I wanted it to be. It helped me be motivated to lose the weigh before the wedding day in Sept 07 and it worked! :)

  7. I'm a bridal consultant, and I tell brides to allow a minimum of 6 months before the wedding.  This gives you time to order something (outside of couture), have it arrive in our shop, have it altered to fit, etc.  Of course, if you don't have 6 months, we still might be able to order something in, it really depends on what you pick out and what the designer has available.  If you have more time than 6 months, that's even better.  I've had brides purchase their dresses over a year in advance, and I've been able to get a dress for a bride for their wedding within days.  I had a bride come in on a Tuesday, wedding was Saturday, she needed a dress NOW, and we were able to help her.  She bought from our stock, had the rush alterations done, dress needed to be cleaned, steamed, etc., and it was ready to wear on Saturday.  I wouldn't recommend that though...give yourself plenty of time.  Good luck!

  8. The first dress I ordered took 3 months to come and then came in the wrong color...

They re-ordered the dress for me and this took only 2 months because they rushed it... yeah.. again the wrong color...apparently someone at their factory has issues with the color "cream"....

So I just called about the 3rd dress which was ordered 2-1/2 weeks ago and was told that it is due in on August 16th...

I have my fingers crossed.  Thank goodness the wedding isnt until October... can you imagine if I hadn't ordered it so far in advance!!!

  9. i got mine 5 months before.

  10. Because dresses can take up to 6 months to come in without a 'rush' order, you should really check with the store you are dealing with.

Difference designers could have different lag times.

You also need to plan for alteration times as well.

I would recommend you buy the dress at least 6 - 9 months before the wedding.  A little longer if you have the time.

I found the perfect dress for me so I ended up buying it 18 months early.  But I also risked it and ordered from a seller in China off of eBay so I wanted extra time in case it was lousy and I needed to go to a store and buy a different dress.
