Question:

How long before we can let our toddler sit on our toilet instead of his little potty?

We got a little potty for him a few months ago just so he could get used to sitting on it before we were ready to potty train him and last week he decided on his own that he didn't want to wear diapers anymore and pooped and pee'd in his potty for the first time and has gone almost a week with only wearing diapers for naps and bed time. I wasn't excpecting him to be ready for the potty so soon since he won't even be two until the 8th of August! My husband is already wanting him to sit on our toilet so he doesn't have to empty the potty anymore but even if we put a little seat on our big seat and had a stool for our son that he might still not have good enough balance to sit on it yet without falling off.

  1. I'd wait till her learns how to aim.

  2. get a seat that goes on the big potty. my son never used a little potty, he just wasnt interested. he started out on the big potty. It was easier. Since you son is already using the little potty, you will have to let him decide. make a fuss over the new seat you get for the big potty so that it interests him. If he feels forced he might regress. Let him know its his choice to go in whichever one he wants.

  3. I agree with your husband, emptying the potty is an unnecessary extra step! We have the Baby Bjorn seats, they are more expensive but fit really well to the toilet seat so he won't be able to fall off. He'll probably still need help getting on and off for a while. We left the potty in the toilet so they can use it if they want, but both our children preferred using the toilet from about 1 week after potty training.

  4. wait until they dont fall in

  5. Just let him do it when he is ready. My son is almost 4 and he will not dare sit on the big potty to p**p lol. he still goes in his little chair but he will stand to pee in the big toilet. He has time, I would just let him keep doing what he is doing. hope this helps!

  6. Try and see how he does on the big potty.  IME the earlier they get accustomed to using the big potty, less frustration you will have when your out and about.  Some kids are scared of them, but then what do you do when your out shopping or out to eat, do you really want to carry a potty chair with you at all times??  Also make sure that at Grandma's houses or any others that you might visit frequently have similar cushions or potty chairs at thier house too.

I'd be you will be surprised at how well he can balance himself at the big potty, lots of encourgement and praises..  Good Luck.
