I have been a secodary school teacer for 8 years in the uk, but I moved to a different school earlier this year. I am thinking that in 2009 (late) or more likely 2010 I would like to consider having a family with my husband- but would I be entitled to maternity pay etc?

any thoughts? if so, thanks

  1. It really does depends on your school. You need to discuss that with your boss as to how long you get and what you get paid. Most bosses are very understanding and will tell you to take what time you need. Good luck.

  2. If your baby is due on or after 1 April 2007 you can get Statutory Maternity Pay for up to 39 weeks

Contractal Maternity Pay in addition to this will be between you and your employer, it should be detailed in your conditions of service. Contact your HR department who will tell you how long you can get and at what rate of pay.
