It depends on exactly which bit of London to exactly which bit of Birmingham - I drive from the SY21 area of Mid Wales to France regularly, and it always takes 4 hours give or take 15 minutes to do the 250 odd miles.

However, go inside the M25 & you can take six hours to cross London.

What kind of car? More to the point, what part of London. If your talking SE, it can add a couple of hours just to get to the M1.
