How long can I extend the cable for my Garmin gxm30?

I want to mount my xm receiver to the roof of my car but the cable isn't long enough. if I splice into it and manually add more wire will the reception quality or signal strength decrease?

You would be far better off buying some extension cables. They are Garmin Part Number 010-10617-02. If you splice the cable there is a really good chance of the reception degrading.
