How long can I keep firm tofu unopened in the refrigerator?

  1. Unopened it will be ok untill the expiration date. If you've opened it, remove the orginal water and store it in an air tight plastic container with fresh water. Be sure to change the water often. I've had it last quite a while in the fridge like this. Just check the smell, texture, look before you use it.


  2. It should have an expiration date on it.  If it doesn't, next time buy another brand!

    That said, the box I just bought is good for 4 months (no idea how long it was in the store).  Tofu in trays with a plastic film cover I would expect to have a shorter shelf-life, but haven't seen that in my local markets in a while, so no idea what it would be.

  3. Not too long.  I usually use whatever I buy within a few days.  What we have no way of knowing is how long it's been sitting on the store shelf and if it were properly handled (kept chilled or left out at room temperature, etc.) from the supplier to the refrigeration unit in the store where you found it.

    It tastes best when fresh anyway.
