I am arriving from the US to germany on May10th. My job starts on July 29th and ends on September 5th, when do I have to leave if I dont find a job? Does the issued work visa usually allow stay of 90 days after the first day of work? or does it end immediately when work is over? I need time to find another job afterwards....

  1. Who is preparing your papers?  These are the people who should have the proper answers.  Nevertheless, please note, that as of January 1, 2005, all persons who wish to seek gainful employment in Germany are required to obtain a residence permit in the form of a visa. Where needed, a work permit will be included in the visa issued for this purpose.  Your residence/work permit will be tied your specific job - when the application is submitted to the German mission abroad, the mission forwards the application for a decision by the federal authority in the place where the job in Germany is to be commenced. The federal authority has to coordinate its decision with the local employment office that is to issue the permit.

You need to provide more specific details in order to get a more definitive answer.  It would probably be best just to contact the Embassy of Germany in Washington, DC, or one of the nine German consulates in the US:
