Question:

How long can I stay in the UK without returning home or getting a visa?

I'm going to be staying in England as a nanny for a family, and my stay is limited to six months because that's the UK's limit without a visa. In talking to others who have though, I've been told that if I leave the UK (as on holiday to Spain, as we're planning) and return to England, that that six months will be renewed. Is this true?

  1. If you are even attempting to gain entry to this country to work without a work permit then you are breaking our laws and we don't want your sort here.  It goes without saying that the people who you will be a nanny for will also be breaking the law.

You can stay for 6 months as a visitor and that's it.  If you want to stay longer you can't...we would have the same problems going to your country...and have you ever complained about the illegals in your country, because if you have then you are attempting to do exactly the same as they have.

You also have to consider that if you are found working here illegally, you will be deported, it will be stamped thus in your passport and you will never be allowed here again.  You would also have trouble getting into other countries with that type of stamp in your passport

    Edit

Something I forgot to say is that when you get to immigration in this country, if you cannot prove that you have enough funds to support yourself without recourse to public funds whilst you are here, you will simply be denied entry and be put on the first plane back whence you came..

  2. No, it won't work to go to Spain or anywhere you have to return home inbetween.

  3. Um, you know that the 6 months is limited to a holiday though right? As in, you are not supposed to be working?

Actually, I should probably ask which country you are from - if from the EU you can work in the UK without restrictions.

  4. I will recomend you to call the Britisch embassy first
